Community Garden

Making an existing community growing space easier to access, use, sit in and grow from.

The problem

Some existing community growing spaces are harder to reach, sit in or use than they need to be — especially for people who use wheels, pushchairs or who want a simple place to rest.

The idea

Work with an existing site so access, seating, soil and growing space improve together, without pretending a new park has already been built.

The plan

Explore an accessible side route, seating, ground restoration, growing beds, soil and lawn improvements, picnic seating and community growing days. None of this is claimed as funded or approved until those records exist.

Where we are

Developing. Site selection, access planning and local participation still need to happen. No council approval or completed works are claimed.

The story

Improve an existing Gateshead community growing site so more people can reach it, sit in it and grow from it. This is a developing local project, not a completed works programme.

What we already have

  • A public project record on Sanctuary
  • Town Square discovery for related growing and community places
